Methow Bear Coalition partner organizations offer a variety of programs to support human-bear coexistence in the Methow Valley.
Bear resistant electric-fencing can deter bears from accessing chicken coops, beehives, fruit trees, compost piles, and other attractants. Learn how to install electric-fencing on your property, and get reimbursed up to $500 through this Methow Valley Citizens Council-led cost-share program.
Converting from residential single-household cans to bear-resistant community dumpsters can help prevent bears from accessing trash. MBC is actively working with Waste Wise Methow to identify communities, participants, and locations ready for dumpster conversion.
Explore the MBC Community Dumpster Toolkit to get started!

Bear use of human-habited areas is risky business. Natural food availability, fire, and an expanding human-footprint can all factor into a bear's willingness to seek out anthropogenic foods. Join Home Range Wildlife Research in collecting data to help monitor bear-use in the Methow Valley.
